    The Library will offer a 2-week free trial on 3D printing for students, staff and faculty.

    Trial period:
    Date: 15 to 26 September 2014 (except Sat and Sun)
    Time: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

    How to submit a print request:
    1. Bring a complete build model in STL format to the Learning Garden Help Desk during the trial period.
    2. A print quota is set to 5 print requests per day.
    Each build model must not exceed 20 grams of build material.
    3. Staff will add your print request to a printing queue and estimate a pickup time for you.
    4. Users must present their CU Link cards at the Learning Garden Help Desk
    in person to collect their printed objects.

    Publishing in Academic Journals: Tips to help you succeed

    The Library arranged with Taylor & Francis, one of the world's leading publishers of scholarly journals in Humanities, Social Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, Science and Technology, to provide a talk for researchers and postgraduate students. The session offered advice on structuring of manuscript, choosing the right journal to send it to and guidance and development for authors. Prof. Lin Hui, Director of the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) was invited to share his experience from the editor's perspective.

    The Library arranged a presentation skills discussion workshop at the Idea Exchange for postgraduate students. The workshop aimed to raise participants' awareness of the preparation process of an informative presentation.

    It covered topics such as audience analysis, organizational patterns for informative speeches, quality visual aids, and question-and-answer skills. Participants had the opportunities to share their own research interests with the audience.

    The Library invited Dr Alan Lam, a graduate of CUHK undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to give a sharing talk for students and researchers on his research, innovation and entrepreneurship path. Dr Lam is a young entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sengital Ltd. He has started up his business from his PhD research and has led his company in developing many products and solutions, and winning many industrial awards.

    Dr Lam graduated from CUHK with BEng and MPhil degrees in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering in 1999 and 2001 respectively.     Co-organized with The Independent Learning Centre (ILC), the Library was pleased to offer this workshop for research postgraduate students on writing thesis abstract . The workshop was held at the Idea Exchange of the University Library.

    The participants learned how to summarize the most important information in their research as well as describe the most significant contributions that their research had made in a concise, readable and impressive manner.     Chronic Stress causes many physical, cognitive and psychological problems including memory and learning problems, sleep problems, diarrhea and abdominal pain (i.e. functional gastrointestinal disorder), lower immune function (e.g. easier to get cold), high blood pressure and aging.

    The Joy and Career Development Path in the Finance Industry

    The Library invited Mr Ben Kwong to give a sharing talk for students and researchers on his research and career development paths. Mr Kwong is a graduate of CUHK, a well-known local stock market commentator and financial columnist, and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of KGI Securities. The talk was held at the Idea Exchange of the University Library.

    Mr Kwong shared on the gains, losses, joy and difficulties of working in the finance industry based on personal experience of over twenty years, and analyzed the requirements of and preparation for a career in the industry.
