Uniquely positioned to serve as a bridge between China and the West, CUHK is one of the most internationalized universities recognized globally for its dedication to education and research.

 

Over the years, the University has established partnerships with many universities, research institutes, government agencies, funding bodies, and international associations of higher learning and research. Currently, CUHK has formal partnerships with over 370 institutions abroad for collaborations, including student and faculty exchange, collaborative teaching programmes, research collaborations, and joint research centres. 

 

The University has also joined various academic alliances that provide opportunities for forming multi-lateral collaborations, exchanging knowledge and best practices, and promoting scientific and cultural exchange.

CUHK establishes its first student exchange programme with the University of California. It is the first university in Hong Kong to pioneer international exchange, unveiling a new page of global education for students in the territory and facilitating cultural exchange between China and the West. With the support of the Yale-China Association, the International Asian Studies Programme is established to enable students from institutions outside Hong Kong to study abroad at CUHK. (1977)
CUHK hosts the first Vice-Chancellors’ & Presidents’ Forum. Over 40 leading university heads convene on campus to explore the developments of global tertiary education. (1999)
Dr. Alex K. Yasumoto makes a magnificent donation of HK$100m to establish the Yasumoto International Exchange Scholarship Scheme in support of the University’s international academic exchange activities. The Yasumoto International Academic Park is later opened which embraces Dr. Yasumoto’s grand vision for the world of building cross-cultural understanding with harmony. (2005)
The GLOBE (Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education) Programme is launched by CUHK, Copenhagen Business School, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2005, bringing students together from the three universities for an innovative and integrated curriculum to nurture future global business leaders. (2005)
CUHK hosts the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE)’s first annual conference and exhibition in Hong Kong, the largest international education conference ever held in the region with some 1,200 participants from 46 countries and regions. (2013)
CUHK hosts the Golden Jubilee University Presidents’ Forum. Some 40 university leaders from 14 countries and regions join this momentous event and take part in a high-level dialogue to promote intercultural exchanges in universities. (2013)
Strategic multi-country partnerships are formed to forge global collaborations. A strategic partnership is established with the University of Toronto and Utrecht University for innovative solutions on urban issues. (2013)
CUHK and the University of Exeter establish the first-of-its-kind joint research centre in Hong Kong to promote environmental sustainability and resilience. (2018)
CUHK launches the first batch of dual undergraduate degree programmes with top universities in the world, including Waseda University in Japan. These programmes are instrumental in enriching students’ learning experience and broaden their global vision. (2018)
