Scholarly Communications refer to the process in which research outputs are created, disseminated, and preserved. Traditionally, research outputs are published as monographs and journal articles in print or digital formats behind a paywall. This traditional landscape has been transformed by the open science movement – the research community has been making all stages of the research cycle transparent and accessible via collaborative online platforms. For example, research data management plans are created before data collection, research data, methods, codes, and preprints can be published as citable research outputs, peer reviews are changing from blinded to open format, and hypotheses of research plans can be preregistered in advance. Meanwhile, publishers have set up different business models to transform their journals from subscription-based to open access.
The Scholarly Communications team at the CUHK Library aims to support faculties and researchers to effectively disseminate their research outputs, preserve them for future use, and evaluate their impact to the scholarly community. We provide the following services:
