In this session you will learn about altmetrics, how research gains attention online, and how you can analyze the reach of, and engagement with, research outputs. You will learn:

• What are altmetrics? What exactly are alternative metrics and why are they important?
• What are attention sources? Where are conversations about research taking place?
• How is research tracked for attention and what types of research are tracked? Are there important things to note when sharing outputs so they are trackable?
• What is the attention score? What does the number in the donut mean?
• How can mentions be exported and used over time? What data can be extracted from the Altmetric Explorer and is this data updated
