    To enhance access to library resources and in response to users’ feedback in the 2019 Library Survey, starting from 29 August 2021, the University Library, Chung Chi College Elisabeth Luce Moore Library, New Asia College Ch’ien Mu Library, United College Wu Chung Library and the Lee Quo Wei Law Library will open two hours early at 11am on Sunday during term time. The new Sunday opening hours during term time will be from 11am to 7pm.

    The Heaviest Light' is a photo exhibition about Shanghai-style barbershops. Since 1949, many Shanghai barbers came to Hong Kong from Mainland China for opportunities. In the 60s to 70s, Shanghai-style barbershops was at its golden age, which barbershops being commonly seen in the streets of Hong Kong, and its Shanghai style haircut being the trend in the city. However, as time goes by there are few Shanghai-style barbershops left in Hong Kong. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity and use this exhibition to record history. Lest we forget the golden age of Shanghai-style barbershops in Hong Kong.

    Over the years, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library has acquired very finely reproduced artworks made by specialists including the Nigensha Publishing Co. Ltd. in Japan and kept in the New Asia College Ch’ien Mu Library. The Collection consists of calligraphy and paintings reproduced from the Tang to the Qing Dynasty. The originals of these artworks are housed in different museums such as National Palace Museum, Taipei, Shanghai Museum, and British Museum. The artwork reproduction requires a high standard of professional and specialized skills.

    We are pleased to announce the launch of the new Hong Kong Literature Database (HKLD). The search function of the database not only provides basic search, but also includes faceted search and search within results, for more refined searching results. With the grounding work of our Library on collecting pseudonyms of authors, the new HKLD offers searching of works under different pseudonyms of an author. Furthermore, users can share search results through email. Other features include browsing of journals and newspapers, Hong Kong Literature Archive, Hong Kong literature related activities, and more.

Attending these workshops can help you explore and learn how to use the vast variety of resources for your academic studies and assessments. You will develop the skills and knowledge in finding, evaluating and managing relevant high level information which would be useful for your studies.

    All CUHK undergraduate students are welcome to attend the following library workshops. Postgraduate students are also welcome to attend if they wish. Students, in groups of ten or more, can request library courses to suit their information needs and schedules.
