“Muses & Millinery” illustrates the correlation between fantastic female beauty and the art of millinery. As one of the most influential fashion accessories in history, millinery practice can be dated back to thousand years ago. Not only was it able to reflect the style and culture of a place, but it could also reveal personal aesthetics. This exhibition, therefore, aims to examine Chinese female beauty and identities by creating six millinery works, which simultaneously represented six stunning ladies over the course of the early 20th century. The designs of the millineries and the notion of “re-imagining” history will be...

Data Management Plan (DMP) is a document in which researchers plan the details of data management in a research project. Writing a DMP at proposal writing stage not only keeps you a better practice in managing data, but also saves you time and helps you identify the decisions on how to handle your data throughout the research life cycle.

To support CUHK researchers to create DMPs, the Library has developed a new DMP service using DMPTool . DMP templates of different funding agencies are available on the platform. For more details, please visit our website .

Special Collections at the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library has a small but important collection of European rare books with particular strengths in the history of medicine, architecture and China-Western relations. The collection ranges linguistically from Latin to early modern English, and geographically from Venice to Glasgow in terms of place of publication. Of particular interest are the books related to the Jesuit missions in China (such as the Novus Atlas Sinensis ) and several incunables (i.e. the oldest printed books from before 1501).

We are delighted to have Professor Stuart McManus from the History Department to introduce some important western rare books to our collection.

Throughout these years of professional art practices, I use to psychologically struggle between Realism and Narrative Expression. It is inevitable that if I learn from the experience of Salvador Dali, I definitely do not rely on any visual references because I can simply create works in Surrealism. But in recent years, even though I observe the secular substances to paint, I am seemingly disordered by the illusions to portray the episodes in an impressionistic manner. So, is it an ironic phenomenon that I am also affected by Sigmund Freud’s “daydreaming” theory even dealing with Realism? That’s why...

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library is pleased to announce a new publication “ An Annotated Bibliography of the Classical Writings of Hong Kong Poets. Sequel: Poetry Societies " (Call number: Z3107.H6 X5362 2021 ) compiled by Ms. Y.W. Chau. The book in University Library Series No.9 has been published by the Chinese University Press in January 2021.

    About the Book

They would form various shi- and ci- poetry societies to carry on the Chinese poetic tradition. It is a pity that the poetry of most of these societies has not been published before. In order...
