We are glad that the library can support the students during the final examination period by extending the opening hours of other floors of the University Library. We will be looking into making the same arrangement for the mid-term examination period in the near future taking into consideration the needs of our students and other library users and environmental sustainability.

  • I would like to give the advice about the extend of opening hour of the L1 to L4
  • That would be great if setting a box drop service box near the mtr station.
Please consider making use of the book drop on the first floor of the Yasumoto International Academic Park which is just two minutes’ walk from Exit D of the University Station.

All borrowed items are subject to recall. A recall is a request to get an item back from another borrower as soon as possible. The hold service may lead to a recall of the checked out items and may shorten their due date, i.e. 14 days from the date of recall. To ensure the book comes back to you quickly, you can recall the book after you have returned it.

Thank you for your encouraging comment. We will keep up with our good services, and continue to improve the library ambience and environment with different types of study seats and facilities available to users.

The indoor environment of the library is generally maintained at 21 to 23 Degree Celsius and a relative humidity of 45 to 60 percent, which is suitable for library users and for the storage of books. However, the indoor temperature may fluctuate with the external weather conditions. Users may also feel cooler in areas that are close to the air conditioning outlets. If you feel especially cold or hot in a particular area, you may contact our frontline staff for assistance.

  • Discussion rooms sometimes too noisy
Library staff will patrol the user area regularly and remind users to keep their voice down whenever needed. Users are welcome to contact Library staff at the Service Counter for any immediate assistance. The Library strives to maintain an environment conducive to learning and study taking into consideration the diverse needs of different library users. Both quiet study zones and discussion zones are available to users in our libraries.
  • Please demote more efforts on supervising students on being quiet and self-disciplined in public studying area so as to create a better self-study environment.

  • A lot of business textbooks used by professors are either not available in library or the same version is not available
The Library has been working with teaching departments closely on the acquiring of textbooks and course reading materials according to the course reading list. More copies of the textbook will be purchased according to the recommendation from the teaching departments and their availability on the market.
  • Textbook for the subject is always not enough
The Library has been working with more vendors to source the books more efficiently. Library materials are supplied by renowned international and local book vendors. Books published in a smaller quantity may become out of print quickly and books published several years ago are also difficult to source.
  • It would be much better if the book request order/delivery can be done with enhanced efficiency
  • New books addition is very limited
The CUHK Library has one of the strongest collection among UGC libraries, there are 2.5 million print items and more than 3,000 print journal subscriptions. We will continuously acquire new resources in collaboration with teaching departments. Students and faculties are welcome to make recommendation via the Online Suggestion Form: https://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/en/collections/recommend-purchase/
  • It would be nice if the library/CUHK could subscribe to more academic journals
Multiple copies will be acquired when necessary. However, the general spirit of the Library Collection Development Policy advises against the acquisition of unnecessary duplicates.
  • Need more copies of book
  • More e-books and e-journals
The CUHK digital library comprises 5.4 million electronic books, more than 160,000 electronic journals and 1,000 databases. The majority of these resources are accessible both on and off campus from the Library’s web pages. We will continuously enhancing our electronic collection to support research, teaching and learning at CUHK.
  • Prefer hardcopy version of books
With the implementation of the e-preferred policy, print materials will be acquired at a reduced rate and in a more selective manner in some subject disciplines. Print materials may remain the preferred option, for example, for preservation reasons, unavailability of electronic version or to meet equity and accessibility requirements.
Thank you for your appreciations.

  • I must comment that, during the period of going to library, it increased and developed my thirst for reading and expand my knowledge. Also aid me in my research work. Also, the collection of materials is accessible for reading, not just displaying views or purposes. absolutely quiet environment and conducive environment for reading.
  • I am so surprised that the library could offer such extensive online resources, including databases and books. It is very helpful when doing academic research.
Thank you for your suggestion. The Library has Good Reads Collections at University Library, Chung Chi College Library, New Asia Library, and United College Library that you may like to explore. The Collection is updated periodically.
Thanks for your comments. To better display the location of the books, we will continue to work with the system team to improve the library website.

Regarding retrieving books from the library, our Inter-Branch Book Delivery enables CUHK staff and students to make a request via LibrarySearch to transfer a circulating book, except for Course Reserves, from the holding library to a library in a different CUHK campus for borrowing. A Self-pickup Station with 18 lockers is now available at the Shaw College for retrieving library materials.

We understand the growing need for private study spaces, especially as online teaching and interviews become more prevalent. Having reviewed the usage of the Online Interview Room in the Law Library, we will be converting another small Group Study Room in Law Library to a second Online Interview Room which can be reserved by a single user.

For other languages and input methods, users can follow a self-service instruction guide to add the required languages and input methods. The instruction guide is accessible from a desktop icon on all public computers.
  • Public computers – keyboard or mouse not working well
We will arrange to replace the faulty keyboard and mouse. Users are encouraged to report problems to the helpdesks or service counters for our prompt follow-up.
  • Printing – improve wifi printing, add more payment options, print quality issues
A working group with ITSC has been formed study and enhance the printing service.
  • Off-campus access to e-resources – requiring 2FA to login
The use of 2FA for off-campus access to e-resources is to protect the safety of users’ Library accounts and prevent abuse of Library subscribed e-resources. If you are using a trusted computer, the “trust browser” option in the 2FA prompt can be used to skip 2FA for 12 hours on the same browser.
  • love that the library team provides a vast variety of other literature/ research related courses, e.g. data management/ about plagiarism etc. Always useful. And the amount of e-books available on the platform.
We are delighted to learn that the wide variety of library workshops on different topics are useful for users. To facilitate self-learning, we will develop more learning resources via Library guides and online videos for users to view anytime, anywhere.
  • Library seminars/workshops/etc. seem to happen at times when I have classes so I have not been able to attend any of them, even when they interested me.
  • I hope more self-service resources on how to make the most of the resources in the library to enhance my academic work can be provided.
