CUHK Data Hack 2025 Pre-hackathon Workshop

* This workshop ONLY opens to CUHK community who have registered to join the CUHK Data Hack 2025*

Instructor: Dr. Michael YU, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, CUHK

Pre-requisite: For those without prior programming experience, we expect that you attend the ‘Python for Beginners’ workshop held on Feb 6, 2025 (Thu).

Description:
While no-code toolkits for machine learning are widely available, numerous programming libraries offer diverse approaches to building machine learning models. Some of the most popular libraries include Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.

Following this morning’s workshop, our follow-up session will focus on utilizing these programming libraries. You’ll have the opportunity to recreate the same machine learning pipeline you explored earlier, but this time, primarily through coding. Generally, coding solutions provide greater control over the modeling and evaluation processes.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for students interested in machine learning to experience both coding and no-coding solutions.

Please note that while we expect some of you may encounter challenges with programming, we hope you’ll at least be able to identify key similarities across different models and libraries and more importantly, feel more comfortable reading and discussing the relevant sections of code/instructions.

Remark:
Participants are required to bring their device for hands-on practice.

Venue: Digital Scholarship Lab, G/F, University Library
